Marketing Partnerships, Alliances & Groups

Over the years we have established a number of strategic relationships and partnerships to maximise opportunities for local and national tourism.

We continue to strengthen our ties with airports, airlines, regional tourism organisations, industry body associations,  Tourism New Zealand, Governement as well as local business and tourism operators.

We have a strong commitment to partnering with both the domestic and international industry.  Find out more about the various formal partnerships, allliances and groups we belong to below.

Queenstown Partnerships & Memberships

The Southern Lakes International Marketing Alliance

The Southern Lakes IMA is a collective made up of Destination Queenstown, Lake Wanaka Tourism and Destination Fiordland. The alliance promotes cost-effective participation and marketing of our regions in long haul markets via participation in Tourism NZ Roadshows to economically recovering or emerging markets in UK and Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Southern Lakes is widely acknowledged as one of New Zealand’s most successful International Marketing Alliances. One of its strengths is that the three contributing RTOs make a logical “region” from the point of view of visitors from long-haul markets. For example, there are very few visitors to Fiordland’s World Heritage Area from New York or London or Beijing who would not also spend time in Queenstown.

Leading Moutain Resorts Of The World

Leading Mountain Resorts of the World is a unique global partnership bringing together six of the world’s top mountain resorts. Each member of this exclusive group is internationally recognized for its premier ski resort status, stunning alpine surroundings, extensive range of year-round activities and attractions, tourist infrastructure and, most importantly, the un-rivalled quality of its winter mountain experience.

This group established The Endless Winter Global Ski Experience: the world’s first truly global inter-mountain liftpass discount programme. If you purchase your next season pass at any Leading Mountain Resort of the World and you can buy half price lift passes at all the other Leading Mountain Resorts of the World.

Industry Associations

Membership of the NZ Inbound Tour Operators Council (ITOC), the Tourism Industry Association and the New Zealand Backpacker, Youth and Adventure Tourism Association allow for continued relationship development and information sharing in the industry. Attendance at events such as the annual ITOC Conference and TIA forums ensure that we are up to speed on issues concerning our industry. Attendance at industry meetings such as Regional Tourism Organisations New Zealand (RTONZ) updates and Tourism New Zealand RTO updates ensure we're able to respond quickly to opporunities.
