Once again Queenstown has taken top honours as the number one destination for Kiwi travellers according to a survey of 17,000 New Zealanders by Travelbug, the travel website run by Trade Me.

Queenstown has had the honour of being named both the domestic location Kiwis most enjoyed holidaying (with 16% of the vote) and the place most people aspired to visit (18% support).

Head of Travel at Trade Me, Daniel Bridges, said Queenstown was particularly strong as an potential favourite destination for North Islanders, especially Aucklanders and Wellingtonians.

Bridges said Queenstown cleaned up in both categories in the 2011 Travel Bug survey too.

"Queenstown is a place people dream of visiting, and love to return to. Yes, it goes berserk in ski season, but you no longer need to be an adrenaline junkie to have a good time.
"They've done a great job of making it an awesome place to be 12 months of the year, regardless of whether you're a 7-year-old snowboarder or a 77 year-old wine connoisseur."

Destination Queenstown CEO Graham Budd couldn’t agree more and was delighted with the result.

“I would really like to encourage those Kiwis who aspire to visit to take a closer look at how easy it is to turn their dreams into reality.
“Continually improving air access – more flights, more routes and bigger aircraft – is making it easier for people to come and enjoy the spectacular lake and alpine scenery and experiences Queenstown has to offer.
“It can be your international holiday experience at any time of year without leaving the country!”
