It has been confirmed that Winter Games NZ 2013, to be held in Queenstown, Wanaka and Naseby 11-25 August, will host at least five World Cups. Never before have so many World Cups been staged in a single event outside the Winter Olympics.
With the event’s status as a qualifier for the 2014 Winter Olympics and world rankings up for grabs, it will attract the world’s best athletes.
Queenstown and Wanaka will also play host to some top international skiers and snowboarders next month in the FIS Freestyle Ski Halfpipe World Cup on August 22 and the FIS Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup the following weekend.
These world-class skiers and snowboarders will descend upon Cardrona Alpine Resort as they compete to gain valuable points towards Olympic qualification in Sochi 2014.
