© Queenstown Trails Trust After two years of intense construction the 110+km Queenstown Trail is close to completion. An official opening is planned for October 18 2012.

The Queenstown Trail is an integral part of New Zealand Great Rides,  providing a spectacular mountain biking and walking trail through the Wakatipu region.

110+kms of diverse terrain connects three main hubs – Central Queenstown, Arrowtown and Gibbston. The trail crosses three major rivers – the Kawarau, Shotover and Arrow and meanders past Lake Wakatipu and Lake Hayes. There are eight bridges in total, five newly constructed and a significant underpass beneath State Highway 6 accessing the original road from Queenstown to the historic Kawarau Bridge and on to the Gibbston River Trail and Chard Farm.

The Queenstown Trail can be completed as a multi-day ride or as a series of day rides or hikes done at your own pace. The trail is set in spectacular, remote scenery, but it is never more than 30 minutes away from cafes, accommodation, and many other attractions such as art galleries, jetboat riding and bungy jumping.
