The environment has always been a major drawcard for visitors to the region and a primary reason why residents choose to live here. Protecting and enhancing our environment is vital.
There are several pieces of research that help us to understand the impact of tourism on both a local and national level. These include involvement in industry environment commitments such as the Tourism Industry Association (TIA) Tourism Sustainability Commitment (TSC) and QLDC measured environment metrics. This area will continue to evolve as more environment-related metrics are developed.
Research that may be of interest includes:
- Otago Climate Change Risk Assessment (Otago Regional Council)
- Tourism Sector Climate Change Scenarios (The Aotearoa Circle)
