Go Orange are committed to protecting, preserving and caring for the land we so luckily get to call home. We embrace the Tiaki Promise by proactively educating visitors about our commitment to looking after our stunning natural environment. The three main commitments are, to care for the land, tread lightly and leave no trace. Travel safe showing care and consideration for all and respect the culture of our land. We share these values with our work whanau and all travellers on our experiences.
During training sessions, DOC inspired our guides with genuine local knowledge about Maori legends, national park conservation efforts, and marine research locations and impacts, as well as predator control efforts throughout Fiordland and the promise of sustainability. These elements combined have been used as the foundation of knowledge the crew needed to confidently share the Tiaki Promise with our visitors in Fiordland.
At Go Orange, we are committed to enhancing the future of tourism in New Zealand. We are working hard throughout all our experiences to create a sustainable and thriving environment for our staff and customers alike. Along with DOC workshops, our team currently attend SMART courses, this stands for sustainable marine mammal actions and recreation in tourism. We are constantly broadening our knowledge about our backyard and learn how to correctly operate and be respectful in conservation areas without disturbing the wildlife who live there. We are in the process of eliminating the use of single-use plastics throughout our operations and making the conscious effort to create a single-use plastic-free environment in Milford Sound. We also purchased a fleet of Unimog’s that are more economically sound than our previous fleet, thus reducing our carbon footprint.
This summer we will be offering plastic-free lunches in Doubtful Sound and only vegetarian options. In Milford Sound, we transport all our beer in reusable kegs as opposed to bottles and all our coffee onboard comes in biodegradable packaging.
As a company, we are committed to Aotearoa and the positive outcome of actively bettering ourselves and operations. We proudly display the presence of the Tiaki icons across all our operations. From the buses, shop windows and website along with whole new section included in the brand new Milford Sound guide book.
The Tiaki Promise is a commitment to care for New Zealand, for now, and for future generations. By following the Tiaki Promise we are committing New Zealand to act as a guardian, protecting and preserving our home.
