Exhibition Opening: Lyrics and Lines
Lyrics and Lines playfully explores the concept of creative mark-making, inviting us to consider the patterns that shape our lives and environment. Inspired by the Chartwell 50th Anniversary Project 2024, this exhibition features the work of six leading contemporary artists from Australasia, each showcasing unique approaches to the use of lines and marks in their art.
Among the highlights is a brand-new, site-specific wall painting by Arts Laureate John Reynolds, created live during the pre-opening of the exhibition. Additionally, works from Ani O'Neill, Gordon Walters, Veronica Herber, Julian Hooper, and Nyapanyapa Yunupingu are on display, all of whom are featured in the Chartwell Collection, one of Aotearoa's most significant collections of contemporary art.
Supported by the 2024 Garden Party donors of the Arts Foundation, Lyrics and Lines aligns with Chartwell’s pillars - Seeing, Thinking, Making - encouraging viewers to engage deeply with the creative process and the patterns that emerge from it.
Inspired by, and partnering with, the Chartwell 50th Anniversary Project 2024.
