Back

Winter Games NZ is thrilled to announce the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest snow sports event is back in 2022. The Games will include 16 events across alpine, freeride and freestyle (park and pipe) disciplines between the 27th August and 11th September.

Cardrona Alpine Resort, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables will host the best of New Zealand’s snow sports athletes, as well as welcoming back international competitors for the first time since 2019.

Saturday 27 August
FIS ANC Super-G x 2
Where – Coronet Peak
What - Held down The Hurdle watch athletes fly down the Super-G course, combining the technicality of GS with the speed of Downhill.

Sunday 28 & Monday 29 August
FIS ANC Giant Slalom x 2
Where – Coronet Peak
What – Giant Slalom presents a range of long, medium, and tight turns, which require strength and a good sense of rhythm. The race will be held on The Hurdle.

Thursday 1 September
FIS ANC Freeski & Snowboard Halfpipe Qualifiers
Where – Cardrona Alpine Resort
What – Watch Kiwi and international athletes battle it out in the Olympic Superpipe with the top scoring athletes qualifying through to the finals.

Friday 2 September
FIS ANC Freeski & Snowboard Slopestyle Finals
Where – Cardrona Alpine Resort
What – Watch Kiwi and international athletes battle it out on the World Cup level Slopestyle Course with the top scoring athletes qualifying through to the finals.

Saturday 3 September
FIS ANC Freeski & Snowboard Slopestyle Finals
Where – Cardrona Alpine Resort
What – Watch the top athletes from the qualifiers go head-to-head on the World Cup level Slopestyle Course consisting of rails and jumps. High adrenaline and a real spectator event!


Saturday 3 September – Monday 5 September
The North Face Frontier 2* Event
Where – The Remarkables
What – The aim for these talented skiers and snowboarders is to ride from the top to the bottom of the natural (ungroomed) face with as much fluidity, style and speed as possible. The North Face Frontier FWQ 2* will be held in Shadow Basin. Each category winner has the potential to be offered a wild card entry into the 4* event held in the following days.

Sunday 4 September
FIS ANC Freeski & Snowboard Halfpipe Finals
Where – Cardrona Alpine Resort
What – Watch the top athletes from the qualifiers go head-to-head in the Olympic Superpipe, throwing down their most technical tricks for a spot on the podium.

Sunday 4 September – Thursday 8 September
The North Face Frontier 4* Event
Where – The Remarkables
What – The North Face Frontier FWQ 4* will be held in the Alta Chutes and is the highest level of qualification event to get onto the Freeride World Tour. Expect to see some top level Freeride athletes laying it all on the line for a chance at an exclusive Freeride World Tour spot.

Saturday 10 September
Big Air Showdown
Where – Cardrona Alpine Resort
What – An invitational event where the best of the best compete against each other in a jam format on the Big Air! A fantastic spectator event.

Sunday 11 September
Park Jam Showdown
Where – Cardrona Alpine Resort
What – An invitational event where the best of the best compete against each other in a purpose built rail garden allowing the athletes to show off their most creative riding.
