Funding Increase Proposal

The Board of Destination Queenstown is recommending to members that an increase in funding be sought from the QLDC targeted Tourism Promotion Levy in the 2019/20 year.

The proposal is that a one-off increase in core funding for the year commencing 1 July 2019. In subsequent years, funding increases will revert to the normal incremental increase through rates as determined by Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Vote: 3 April 2019

A vote will take place the morning of 3 April at the Copthorne Hotel and Resort Queenstown Lakefront at 9.00am (registration from 8.30pm).

DQ Board Chairman Matt Hollyer will give a brief overview of the proposal before the vote, and the result will be announced at this meeting.

The resolution that will be voted on is whether DQ members:

Request QLDC to increase the base funding of Destination Queenstown via the targeted ‘tourism promotion levy’ in the Wakatipu by $900,000 to achieve annual funding in 2019/20 of $4,500,000 (excl GST).

Proxy vote option

As per the rules of Destination Queenstown, proxy votes are allowed.

  • You can nominate another DQ member attending the meeting (this could be a DQ Board member) to vote on your behalf.
  • DQ must be notified of your choice in writing in advance of 3 April, please also direct this information to reception@queenstownnz.nz.
  • Voting papers for all attendees (including those with proxy votes) will be distributed at registration ahead of the meeting.

Time: essential voter registration from 8.30am, meeting and vote from 9.00am

Proposal Information Open Day at DQ offices – Friday 29 March

Chairman Matt Hollyer and Chief Executive Graham Budd will also be available at the DQ offices on Friday 29 March, for DQ members to discuss the funding proposal.
