Take a Break from the Boardroom

You have an hour lunch break and want to get away from the confines of the boardroom or the conference finishes at midday and you have half a day in Queenstown to explore. Here are some ways to re-energise.

Watch the Water Action

Watch the jet boats, steamship and state of the art catamaran in Queenstown Bay from Marine Parade and the Bay’s many wharves. The bay is a hive of activity with scenic cruises and jet boats leaving every hour, often performing 360’s before leaving the bay, and you won’t miss the iconic TSS Earnslaw coming in to Steamer Wharf every two hours or so.

Café Life

Relax lakeside, at a café or restaurant and just enjoy the scenery and fresh alpine air, taking your time over your meal or drinks to make the most of your day. Choose from 'beachfront' cafes overlooking Queenstown Bay or tuck yourself away down an alleyway or upstairs.

Shopping

Indulge in a little retail therapy, and pick out something special from one of Queenstown’s boutique stores. The town is home to international fashion brands, local boutiques packed with New Zealand design and art, pounamu for gifts and of course fabulous Central Otago wines and produce.

Frisbee Golf

Head to the Queenstown Gardens and have a game of frisbee golf or ‘frolf’. Frisbee golf is played much like golf, with similar rules, tee-off areas and targets, but be warned, it can get highly competitive! You can purchase or hire a disc at many of Queenstown's outdoor stores or from the Queenstown Ice Arena in the Queenstown Gardens.

Walk Lake Esplanade

Take a walk along the Lake Esplanade and you’ll see the shores of Lake Wakatipu lined with large blossom and willows. It will take around 15 minutes to walk from Queenstown to the start of the Glenorchy Road, and you’ll be able to take in views of The Remarkables, the Queenstown Gardens, and Walter and Cecil peaks on your stroll.
