Ride to Arrowtown & Back

Book Now →

Discover the hidden gem that is the countryside trail connecting Queenstown and Arrowtown. Collect your bikes from our Queenstown Base at the Hilton Jetty and begin your ride by cruising along the waters edge of Lake Wakatipu. The trail then meanders over two historic bridges and through green pastures. Along the way, you’ll have the option to detour to visit Lake Hayes.

After a couple of hours of leisurely riding, you’ll find yourself in Arrowtown, a romantic village with lots of character and deep history in gold mining. You’ll have plenty of time to immerse yourself in the town life and have a bite to eat. You can then ride back to the Hilton Jetty shop by 5pm when we close.

Must Do in Queenstown/Arrowtown

5.0

What an experience! My fiancé and I did the Gibbston trail to the wineries and it was incredible. Takes about 90 minutes each way or so to complete the trail but it is well worth it. Stunning views of the landscape and rivers. The bridge crossings are hold your breath exciting and the course is easy to follow along. Absolutely would do this again and recommend to all who travel to Queenstown/Arrowrown.

Fantastic Cycling experience in Arrowtown

5.0

We were extremely lucky to just arrive at Better by Bike in Arrowtown and pick up the last two ebikes for a ride out to the Vineyards and back. Having never ridden one of these modern mountain bikes I really enjoyed the ability to zoom up along in "TURBO" setting engaging the warp drive to get up really steep hills! The experience of cycling on a safe pathway , surrounded by mountains and falling leaves was fantastic. The 20 KM out to the Gibbston valley took us all of the two hours promised and more, as we stopped at every corner to take pictures of the beautiful countryside. Having already visited most of the Wineries in the valley we opted to ride the dangerous-looking Chard vineyard road. It was great...so easy on the ebike and the exhilarating cycle around steep drop corners was fantastic. Then the wine at the end of the two-kilometer road was even better. The return cycle seemed to be twice as fast as the outgoing one, probably due to less photography happening. All in all a wonderful experience. Thanks to Meg at Better by bike for all her help! I cannot recommend this experience enough as it was fantastic. OK, you have to put in a bit of effort but the reward was worth it!

FAQs

Do you have some questions
needing answering before you book?

Will I be riding on busy roads?

Absolutely not! Both of our shops are located conveniently on the trails. The Queenstown trail network is 130km long connecting Queenstown, Kelvin Peninsula, Lake Hayes, Arrowtown, and the Gibbston Wine Region. There are only a few very short sections along sealed back-country and farm roads, however these are very quiet, rural areas with virtually no traffic.

How much is the Shuttle from Arrowtown to the Hilton, Queenstown?

$25 per person, with a minimum of two people.

I think I might want a shuttle, do I have to book it?

We are very flexible with our shuttles. You do not have to book them – you can even ring to organize one while you’re out on the trail! If you think you might want one, just let us know at check-in.

If you know you will want one, you can book it alongside your bike – just look for the transfers option to add on at the checkout.

What is “Trail Support”?

As our rides are not guided, we have included trail support so if you happen to have any issues out on the trails for example a puncture, we are only a phone call away.
