5. Take an overnight cruise on the Doubtful Sound

Sometimes called the 'Sound of Silence' Doubtful Sound is the deepest (421 metres) and second longest (40 kilometres) of the South Island's fiords. The fiord is rich in flora and fauna. 6. Eat a Fergburger

Fergburger is a Queenstown 'Must Do'!  Operating since 2001 it has been a favourite by locals and visitors alike.  Try the classic Ferg with Cheese, Tropical Swine, the Chief Wiggam or the Cockadoodle Oink… you can’t go wrong!

7. Take to the air with a scenic flight

8. Drive the road from Queenstown to Glenorchy

Named as “one of the most beautiful drives in the world” by Lonely Planet, this 1-hour journey follows Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown to the beautiful little town of Glenorchy, 47km away. There are lots of stunning points of interest to stop at and admire the crystal clear waters with the jagged mountain background.

9. Shred the slopes at Coronet Peak, Cardrona or The Remarkables

In winter Queenstown becomes a snow-lovers paradise, with three amazing ski resorts all within an hour of downtown. Coronet Peak, Cardrona and The Remarkables all have fantastic lift-accessed terrain, and are suitable for beginners right through to professionals.

10. Drive the Skippers Canyon Road

Hire cars are not insured so best to leave the driving to the professionals! Take a 4WD tour  down the Skippers Road. This road is an engineering marvel - hacked by hand in the late 1880s and clinging to the sheer cliffside high above the Shotover River. Enjoy the awe-inspiring scenery from high above the gorge or down on the shores of the Shotover River, known as the richest river in the world in the days of the gold miners.
