Hilton Queenstown participates in Soap Aid

Queenstown Hotel Initiating a Fresh Start

Have you ever wondered what happens to the used bars of soap after staying at a hotel? A Queenstown hotel has prevented tonnes of discarded soap from ending up in landfill through an international initiative.

Well Hilton Kawarau Village, which consists of Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Queenstown, initiated the Soap Aid program in Queenstown November 2016. Since then, a number of community hotels have jumped on aboard to contribute to the not-for-profit organization.

Soap Aid is an organization that provides recycled soap to communities facing major hygiene challenges around the world. As Soap Aid is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to saving children’s lives through improved hygiene while positively impacting the environment, it is up to communities around the world to assist in their efforts.

Each month, Hilton Kawarau Village and local hotel properties, such as Edgewater Hotel, Villa del Lago, Novotel and St Moritz to name a few, take the initiative to collect and send the used bars of soap to Soap Aid. From there they are sanitised and processed into bars that are then distributed to those in need.
Remarkably in just over one year, Hilton Kawarau Village and the local properties have collected and provided over 2,050kg of soap to Soap Aid, which has also eliminated this large amount ending up in Queenstown’s landfill.

Hilton Kawarau Village and the local Queenstown hotels are also just a few of the many properties in Austrasia who contribute to Soap Aid. Together the Austrasia Hilton properties we have contributed over 7,400kg of soap this past year.
