Because of our remote mountain location, Queenstowners took to the air early. Queenstown airport was granted a license in 1935, two years before commercial flights began in Auckland, and five years before Christchurch airport was founded.

Today you can fly from Queenstown over to Milford Sound and Fiordland. Or land on a wild West Coast beach and collect fresh caught crayfish. Or enjoy the thrill of a snow landing high in the alps complete with a champagne picnic.
