Spring is a distinctive season in Queenstown, with downtown streets lined with blossom trees and gardens filled with daffodils and spring blooms. During this season the Wakatipu Basin warms and the days get longer.

Take a walk along the Lake Esplanade and you’ll see the shores of Lake Wakatipu lined with large blossom trees. It will take around 15 minutes to walk from Queenstown to the start of the Glenorchy Road, and you’ll be able to take in views of The Remarkables, the Queenstown Gardens, and Walter and Cecil peaks on your stroll.

Known as the crown jewel of Queenstown reserves, the Queenstown Gardens will soon be filled with daffodils, tulips and all things spring. The gardens are a well-known spot for visitors and locals to relax and enjoy the lake and alpine views surrounding its central Queenstown location.

The heart of downtown Queenstown bursts into colour with its blossom trees surrounding the popular lunch spot. The Queenstown Jazzfest also brings music to the Village Green with a community concert during the event from 20 – 23 October, this year is its 40th event.

The Mall

For al fresco diners, Queenstown mall is also lined with blossom trees, which will shortly burst to full bloom. Enjoy a meal outside or drinks in the sun with more evening light from the end of September onwards after day light savings begins.

A colonial English garden, the Homestead at Walter Peak is home to thousands of tulips, daffodils and spring flowers. Insider tip – take the 6pm cruise across after daylight savings starts at the end of September and enjoy al fresco dining and see the garden during twilight. 

Arrowtown

The quaint former gold-mining town is known for its autumnal beauty but spring is just as stunning. The main street bursts with potted colour, locals create stunning gardens to wander by, and in late spring the banks of the Arrow River are lined with lupins.
