What is the best time of year to play golf in New Zealand?
The prime golf season in New Zealand runs from October to April, when warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours provide ideal playing conditions. Summer months (December-February) offer the best weather with up to 16 hours of daylight, though courses can be busier. Spring (October-November) and autumn (March-April) are particularly special, with comfortable temperatures, fewer players, and spectacular seasonal colours – especially in Queenstown where the autumn foliage creates a stunning backdrop for golf.
Local tip: Many Queenstown courses remain open year-round, and winter golf (June-August) can offer unique experiences with snow-capped mountain views, crisp clear days, and reduced green fees. Just pack an extra layer and book tee times during warmer afternoon hours.
