The Queenstown Trail links Queenstown, Arrowtown, Lake Hayes, and Gibbston, offering options from short scenic rides to full-day adventures. E-bikes are widely available for those wanting to explore further with less effort. Local bike shops offer rentals, maps, and friendly advice for all skill levels.
For beginners, the flat lakeside paths from Frankton to Queenstown provide gentle, scenic riding with spectacular views of Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables.
Intermediate riders can explore the historic Arrowtown to Gibbston River Trail, meandering through wineries and over suspension bridges.
For advanced riders, Queenstown Bike Park, set within the Ben Lomond Reserve, offers thrilling downhill tracks, accessed by gondola.
Where can I find bike hire in Queenstown?
Queenstown's knowledgeable bike hire providers are located throughout town, with main outlets in central Queenstown and convenient locations in Frankton and Arrowtown. Local operators offer a full range of bikes from cruisers to high-end mountain bikes and e-bikes, complete with helmets and local trail maps. Our experienced providers can match you with the perfect bike for your adventure and share insider tips on the best trails to explore. Is Queenstown Bike Park open all year?
Yes, Queenstown Bike Park, located within Ben Lomond Reserve, is open year-round. However, gondola uplift access operates seasonally from September through late autumn (weather dependent). During winter months when the gondola uplift is closed, riders can still access the bike park trails through self-powered climbs up Hammy's Track or via the Queenstown hill road. The park offers a range of downhill and cross-country trails to suit different riding abilities, from flowing beginner runs to technical expert trails. For the most up-to-date information on gondola operating hours and trail conditions, check with Skyline Queenstown, Queenstown Mountain Bike Club, or local bike shops.
