Authentically Integrate Wānaka’s Te Ao Māori Cultural History Into Visitor Experiences
Understanding Wānaka’s Te Ao Māori cultural history not only grounds tourism businesses with a sense of place, but also strengthens the visitor experience.
Led by Darren Rewi, a Senior kaumātua in Central Otago, this introductory session will guide tourism businesses through the history and placenames in Wānaka, the stories behind the surrounding mountains, and the role of mihi and whanaungatanga when welcoming guests. Businesses will gain a starting point for approaching cultural storytelling in a way that is appropriate and meaningful.
