Factoring in the views of local residents is vital in ensuring the tourism industry supports and benefits the community.

There are several useful pieces of research used to understand the views, sentiment, benefits, and impacts of tourism on our local community. These include the ongoing Views on Tourism research - which focuses exclusively on resident views toward tourism in the Queenstown Lakes District and QLDC’s Quality of Life annual resident research, which has a section on tourism amongst other topics and aspects of wellbeing.

Views on Tourism

The Views on Tourism research measures the value and impacts that tourism has in the local community. It is an annual research initiative between Destination Queenstown and Lake Wānaka Tourism (LWT), conducted by Angus & Associates. For further information about this report please contact Destination Queenstown.

Quality of Life

The Quality of Life annual survey provides data and insights relating to Queenstown Lakes residents' quality of life and the experience of living in the district. It is commissioned by QLDC and carried out by Versus Research
