Located in Sugar Lane at the Queenstown Marina, the Boat Shed Bakery offers locals and visitors a premium “grab-and-go” experience featuring artisan baked goods, high-quality barista coffee, and Lewis Road Creamery Ice Cream. The Maple and Bacon Danish is a standout with it's sweet and salty twist from a traditional danish. Enjoy a moment of indulgence while soaking in the backdrop of the Remarkables and Lake Whakatipu.

Bakers Lane

19 Grant Road, Frankton

A charming space with pale green walls in a peaceful spot, run by a Great Kiwi Bake Off alumni. Bakers Lane serves up a selection of sweet treats like Portuguese tarts, cookies made with Whittakers choolate, donuts, and cinnamon buns, along with sandwiches made with house made focaccia. They cater to people with dietary restrictions with vegan donuts, and gluten-free cheese scones. There are a few tables and chairs and some big tables outside.

Fergbaker

40 Shotover Street, Queenstown

Part of the famous Ferg empire, Fergbaker is celebrated for their hearty pies. The classic Ferg pie has generous chunks of beef and gravy. The venison and Portobello mushroom pie made with Fiordland deer is legendary. They also do sandwiches, cakes, pastries and breads. Right next door, Mrs Ferg makes 50 flavours of gelato and sorbet using fresh local ingredients. Grab your treats and head down to the lake or to the Queenstown Gardens.

The Bakery

37 Shotover Street, Queenstown

A classic traditional Kiwi bakery, the Bakery has stalwarts like potato top pies, cheese scones, good sized muffins, and their famous sausage rolls. There are a few tables available inside, and they open early at 6:00am, so it’s a great place to grab a coffee, sandwich, and a piece of cake for your pack if you’re heading out on an early morning hike.

Sugary Patisserie

Country Lane Retail Village, 26 Hansen Road, Frankton

Sugary Patisserie is run by two Brazilian Pastry Chefs, so their menu has Brazilian specialities such as fudgy brigadeiros, pāo de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), Portuguese tarts infused with lemon and cinnamon, and Brazilian iced tea. You can also order spectacular celebration cakes like dulce de leche with berry jam. There are a couple of tables outside their pretty, airy shop where you can enjoy your treats.

Balls and Bangles

62 Shotover Street, Queenstown

Fresh donuts, bagels and shakes are the stars of the show at Balls and Bangles. Choose from filled and glazed donuts, hot bagel sandwiches, and breakfast bagels with plenty of gluten-free options. There’s generous seating, good coffee, kids love the milkshake and donut combo, and they’re open to 6:00pm for afternoon tea.

Ma Boulangerie

Remarkables Park Town Centre, 2D/12 Hawthorne Drive, Frankton

Ma Boulangerie is run by two French bakers, so expect authentic, fresh French pastries, baguettes, brioche, and gateaux. They also do substantial pies – the pork, carrot and cumin pie makes for a great lunch – or you can go more French with a Quiche Lorraine. The cakes are delicious, with patisserie classics like Paris Brest, opera, and chausson aux pommes.

Bread by European Bakery

12 McBride Street, Frankton

Bread by European Bakery is a stylish little store, where you can pop in and buy fresh bread, and a glass bottle of milk. Choose from a range of sourdough, ciabattas, hand rolled jalapeno bagels, and authentic Berliner doughnuts. You’re also right across the road from Harbour Fish, and the Life’s A Grind coffee caravan next door pours one of the best brews in town – don’t forget your keep cup.

Cookie Time Cookie Bar

18 Camp Street, Queenstown

Pre-packaged Cookie Time cookies may be a familiar sight in shops across New Zealand but that’s not what you get at the Cookie Time Cookie Bar. You’ll be lured into this cute, colourful space by the scent of cookies baking. They serve up hot cookies, raw edible cookie dough, and shakes. At happy hour you can buy one cookie, get one free, and discounted coffee if you bring your own keep-cup.

Arrowtown Bakery

1 Buckingham Street, Arrowtown

With queues out the door, you know Arrowtown Bakery is going to be a winner even before you smell the baking. Local rate their pies (the thai chicken curry pie is a must-try), and they do excellent hot breakfast butties and a full breakfast menu, as well as a range of sandwiches ideal for hikes. Their custard square is another local favourite. There are tables outside in the sun or take your baked goods along to the Buckingham green and soak up the surrounds.
