Day 1 - Choose Your Adventure
Arrive in Queenstown and settle in with a land, water or air based adventure. If a jet boat ride sounds like the perfect option for your family, choose a suitable ride from one of the four different local jet boat companies. Options vary with location and scenery with trips ranging from 20 minute thrills and spills to a fully immersive half day adventure. A great activity for slightly older children as they must be at least 1 metre high to ride. If you're after something a little more low impact, Ziptrek Ecotours is a family-friendly activity providing fun in the trees for all ages six and above. You'll be flying high in the sky at Bob's Peak above Queenstown with spectacular views of Lake Whakatipu and The Remarkables.
Wind down from an exciting first day with a world famous Fergburger or a massive hand rolled and tossed New York styled Fat Badgers Pizza and sit at one of the many spectacular picnic spots along the shores of Lake Whakatipu or take your food onboard Perky's Floating Bar and toast to an epic first day together.
Day 2 - Educational farm tours
Did you know there's a working farm in Queenstown that your family can visit and experience real, rural South Island life? Walter Peak High Country Farm is located on the opposite side of the lake at Walter Peak and only accessed by boat which makes it the perfect half day activity. Once you've sailed over on the historic TSS Earnslaw cruise, you'll get to experience a local farm tour with sheep dog shows and sheep shearing, followed by feeding the farm animals and petting highland cows and baby lambs.
If you're wanting to give back to the land and leave a lasting impression on your Queenstown trip, you should do the Walter Peak Garden to Table Experience. Your friendly horticulturist will guide you through the lush gardens, sharing insights about the locally grown produce and native plants. You'll also have the opportunity to plant a native tree, contributing to the area’s ongoing conservation efforts, before relaxing with a high-country tea selection featuring homegrown and locally sourced treats.
Day 3 - Luge and big views
Take a scenic Gondola ride to the top of Bob’s Peak, 450 meters above Queenstown. Once at the top, a hair-raising 800 metre luge ride is sure to bring out the cheeky and competitive inner-child in all family members. Race yourself or your family and finish the adventures off with a buffet lunch at the Stratosfare restaurant or opt for a more casual dining experience at the Market Kitchen with beautiful views over Queenstown.
Reduce the pace a little on the way back down the Gondola and stop off at the Kiwi Park. Here, the kids can get up close to over 20 species of native wildlife and experience conservation in action.
Day 4 - Get off the beaten track
Spend the final day immersing yourself in Queenstown's surrounding regions with an off road adventure or land tour. Choose from various local tours depending on your interests, whether you’re after a journey into Lord of the Rings country or a scenic tour across river beds, there are plenty of options for every adventurer.
