Arrowtown is a foodie paradise, packed with delicious places to eat & drink. Here are our favourite places to get your Arrowtown breakfast on.

The Dishery

Dudley's Cottage Precinct, 4 Buckingham Street, Arrowtown

Right next to the lush beauty of the Arrow River Reserve, The Dishery has a spacious outdoor seating area under their historic magnolia tree, as well as tables indoors in an airy space flooded with light from floor to ceiling windows.

They serve an all-day menu for breakfast, brunch and lunch. A small but perfectly formed breakfast selection includes a full-cooked bad boy with locally sourced bacon and sausages, a veggie version of eggs benedict with halloumi and winter greens, and a spiced granola.

Adventurous brunchers choose offerings from their wood fired grill, for succulent beef pies and grilled chicken. We know it’s early, but the cocktail list is dreamy and you’re on holiday.

Provisions of Arrowtown

65 Buckingham Street, Arrowtown 9302

This buzzy little café is set in a historic miner's cottage in the heart of the village. It’s a favourite with locals and visitors alike. On a sunny day, head through to the tables in the cottage garden where you can sit under fruit trees laden with blossom in spring and fruit in late summer.

Their all-day menu is full of brunch classics like eggs benedict and brioche French toast. We’re a huge fan of their breakfast bap, which is packed with good things and makes a fantastic filler before a day shredding the slopes. Their sticky buns are delightful, people make pilgrimages to Arrowtown just to snag one for morning tea, so get in early!

Clubhouse at Millbrook

1124 Malaghans Road, Arrowtown

This rustic space overlooks Millbrook’s golf fairways and has magnificent views of the mountains. Eat by the fireplace inside or alfresco on the patio in summer.

Their à la carte menu is loaded with tasty options like orange and walnut granola, banana buckwheat pancakes loaded with fruit, and apple and cinnamon waffles. If you’re playing a round of golf, fuel up with their breakfast of champions packed with pork and fennel sausage, streaky bacon, homemade baked beans, potato fritters, served with sourdough and eggs.

Chop Shop Food Merchants

7 Arrow Lane Arrowtown

Hidden away upstairs on Arrow Lane, don’t miss this quirky gem. A casual vibe with fun vintage / industrial décor. You might need to wait for a table, but there’s a comfy leather sofa to park up on, and they’ll bring you a coffee while you work up an appetite perusing the menu.

The menu is an eclectic Asian fusion delight heaving with big flavours. The line-up changes often, but we love the Turkish poached eggs, nasi goreng fried rice, a particularly luscious beef cheek, Vietnamese pancakes, and corn fritters, all served up with excellent coffee. They’ve got a great wee kids menu as well and do a mean fluffy.

Akarua Wines & Kitchen

265 Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road, Arrowtown

A restaurant in a historic cottage a short drive from Arrowtown towards Lake Hayes. Book a table for breakfast and enjoy goodies like smoked salmon hash cake, coconut cinnamon porridge with poached quince, and a big breakfast boasting apple cider sausages and maple bacon. Seriously tasty.

The cottage doubles as the cellar door for Akarua Wines, so after brunch pick up a tasting flight and enjoy an alfresco wine tasting in the beautiful gardens.

Postmaster’s Kitchen + Bar

54 Buckingham Street, Arrowtown

Another charming eatery in one of Arrowtown’s picturesque historic cottages. Postmaster’s Kitchen + Bar has the works, with a horse-hitching post, white picket fence, log fire, and wisteria looping around the veranda.

Breakfast choices range from their tasty homemade banana bread to a breakfast crumble with apple and blackberry, and that great Kiwi brunch classic, mince on toast.

Arrowtown Bakery & Café

14 Buckingham Street, Arrowtown

If you’re heading off on the trails and want a breakfast-to-go, you can’t go wrong with a stop at the Arrowtown Bakery. Popular for their succulent meat pies, the venison pie is in hot demand, and you can also choose from lamb and mint, and steak and cheese. Cheese rolls are another Kiwi delicacy.

They also have a café where you can order up breakfast basics like eggs benedict, pancakes, cooked breakfasts, and bacon and egg butties. Or if you’re a bit late for breakfast, you’re sorted for morning tea with vanilla custard slices, and cream doughnuts – yum!
