The Kingston Flyer is one of New Zealand’s most famous vintage steam trains. Take a step back in time to 1920s rail travel onboard our fully restored wooden carriages powered by the mighty Ab795 Steam Locomotive. Relax and unwind on our 1.5 hour return journey while admiring the spectacular scenery along the 14km rail corridor from the Kingston Foreshore, to Fairlight Station and back. Both public train rides and private charters are now available. Public train rides depart Kingston almost every Sunday during the 2024/2025 season at 10.30am and 2.00pm from late September to early June. Bookings are essential and must be made via our online booking portal at www.thekingstonflyer.nz.

Our train tours are family friendly and are a fun and memorable outdoor activity for the whole family! Watch the steam engine pull out of the Railway yard before coupling to the train and powering full steam ahead, from Kingston to Fairlight Railway Station. Once at the Fairlight Railway Station you can watch the locomotive turn around at the triangle, and let the kids race the engine to the other side of the train! There is complimentary tea and coffee, and basic cold drinks available along with kingston Flyer merchandise for sale at the railway station. The kingston Flyer steam train is both educational and entertaining.
